ECONO MODIFIEDS

DIVISION. PLEASE HELP US BY NOT OVERSPENDING.
DEERFIELD 2007
EXTREME PRO COMPACTS CARS WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO RACE IN THE E-MOD DIVISION
IN 2008, BUT MUST MEET 2007 DEERFIELD EXTREME PRO COMPACT RULES.
ROLL CAGES:
1. Must consist of a
continuous hoop not less than 1.5 inches outside diameter, and must have
a wall thickness of at least .095 inches.
2. Must be frame
mounted in at least six (6) places. Roll bar padding required in driver
compartment.
3. Must consist of a
configuration of front and rear hoops connected by tubing on the sides,
or side hoops. Driver’s head should not protrude above cage with helmet
on and strapped in driver's seat. Roll cage must be securely supported
and braced.
4. Low carbon, mild
steel tubing is recommended. No brazing or soldering allowed.
5. Protection of feet
is mandatory. Bar across back of engine with vertical bars and rub
rails, or similar protection.
6. No brace bars
forward of cage may be higher than stock hood height. Main cage no
further forward than engine plate.
7. A minimum of three
(3) driver side door bars, at least 1.5” OD, must be as parallel with
the ground as possible, and located perpendicular to the driver so as to
provide maximum protection for driver, but with out causing undue
difficulty in getting in or out of the vehicle. The side bars must be
welded to the front and rear of the roll cage members. No brazing or
soldering. Door plates recommended.
FRAMES
1. Frames – tubular or factory frames ok, rear wheel drive R.W.D.
only.
2. Front suspension and steering must be unaltered OEM and must be
replaceable by stock parts from same type of suspension. Stock
passenger car spindles only; no fabricated spindles. Bottom A-frames
must be stock and cannot be altered or moved. Front sway bar. No
aluminum or fiberglass suspension parts.
3. Tube type upper A-frames allowed and can be moved.
SPRINGS
1. Leaf, coil spring, or coil over
spring OK. Coil over shocks are OK. No torsion bars allowed in rear.
2. One steel bodied shock per wheel
only.
3. No hydraulic, ratchet or electric
weight jacks anywhere in or on car. No air shock or air bags allowed.
4. Minimum wheel base, 108 inches,
max 112 inches.
BODIES
1. Firewall and floorboards are
mandatory. Fiberglass or metal duplicates of body parts are permitted.
Handmade body parts may be constructed of steel, aluminum, or
fiberglass. After market bodies permitted.
2. All cars must have complete paint
job.
3. All cars will be numbered with
large legible number on the top and sides.
4. Numbers shall be in contrasting
color to the body. Sponsors’ names shall not interfere with numbers and
must be neatly done.
5. Engine compartment will remain
open, no side panels; hoods may have maximum 4” drop and must be closed
at the rear.
6. Bodies should extend no further
forward than back of block. Rear of body to be solid panel at least 8”
high and include the car #.
7. Driver window openings on both
sides to be at least 12” vertical and the driver side must have a window
net.
8. No car covers or covers on
suspension parts.
BUMPERS
1. Bumpers should be used both front
and rear. Front Bumpers should be mounted frame end-to-frame end with
the bottom loop parallel to the ground. Bumpers should be made of 1 ¼”
tubing and must be able to support the car if lifted by the wrecker.
2. Rear bumpers, nerf bars, and
bodies must not extend beyond the width of the rear tires, and must not
have any sharp edges.
3. Rear bumpers may be made of
tubing or flat stock, and must protect the fuel cell. Center of the
bumpers (front and rear) must be 18” (+ or – 2”) from the ground. Rear
bumper no more than 2” wider than the body.
ASPIRATION
1. Fuel may be gasoline. No nitrous
oxide. No performance-enhancing fuel additives of any kind.
2. One 2 barrel carburetor; Holley
4412 untouched (may be asked to switch at track). No fuel injection, no
electric fuel pumps.
MUFFLERS
1. Must run quiet type mufflers to
meet a .95 db test.
REAR ENDS
1. Any passenger car type or truck
rear end may be used; no aluminum allowed, except lowering blocks, axle
cap, drive plate, and differential housing.
2. No quick change devices allowed.
No cambered rear ends (one piece drive flange only).
TRANSMISSIONS
1. Only OEM production type
transmissions will be allowed—3 speed, 4 speed and automatic. No “in
and out” boxes.
2. Must have clutch working, with
motor running and car in still position, driver must be able to engage
car in gear and move forward, then backward at time of inspection.
Clutch must be inside of a bellhousing.
3. Clutch type transmissions musts
have an explosion proof steel bellhousing. Automatic transmissions must
have an approved scatter shield or blanket. May be constructed of ½” by
4” steel 270 degrees around flexplate or flywheel.
4. No buttons or couplers.
5. Transmissions must have at least
one gear forward and one reverse, plus a neutral position and must be
able to be shifted by driver.
MISCELLANEOUS
1. Brakes must be operable on all 4
wheels and lock up all 4 wheels during inspection. No brake shut-off
devices allowed.
2. Exhaust system must be mounted in
such a way as to direct spent gasses away from cockpit of vehicle and
away from areas of possible fuel spillage.
3. Racing fuel cells required and
must be mounted by 2 straps around cell and be protected by roll bars
and enclosed in a metal container.
4. No part of fuel cell shall be
lower than protective tubing.
5. Fuel cell must have check
valves. Bladders type highly recommended. Size limited to 32 gallon
max. capacity.
6. Batteries must be securely
mounted and shielded.
7. All vehicles must have the
ability of starting without being pushed or pulled.
8. Kill switch required within easy
reach of the driver, and clearly marked “off” and “on”.
9. Must have a driveshaft hoop
painted white and drive shaft must be painted white. No aluminum
driveshafts.
10. Steering box must be OEM type.
No rack and pinion allowed. In cockpit steering may be modified to suit
driver’s taste, but must remain on left side of cockpit. No center
steering.
11. Aluminum wheels, hubs, calipers,
“A” frames or spindles, or any other aluminum suspension parts, are not
allowed. Plastic wheels not allowed. Calipers cannot be lightened and
must be OEM type. Rotors cannot be lightened or drilled. Rotors may be
redrilled for a different bolt pattern or larger studs.
12. No mirrors allowed.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
1. Helmets are required and must be
Snell 95 approved and should be worn at all times when on the track.
2. Firesuits of a flame retardant
nature must be worn. 2-piece is allowed.
3. Fire resistant gloves and shoes
are highly recommended.
4. Five point safety belts, sub
belt, shoulder harness required.
5. Loose objects and/or weight must
not be used in the driver’s compartment, or on the outside of the body
or hood area. Any weights added to any other area of the car must be
securely mounted, painted white, and have the car number on it, and be
attached with at least two ½” bolts.
6. Car must weigh no less than 2300
lbs. with driver and helmet in the car, immediately following the
feature race.
TIRES
1. Hoosier - 12322 and 12330
2. 8 inch steel wheels. Bead locks
allowed.
3. Maximum overall width 78 inches
front and rear. This measured from the outside of tread. Maximum ½”
spacer between the hub and wheel.
4. No wide five adapters.
5. No tire soaking.
ENGINES
1. All engines used in competition
must be able to be used in conventional passenger car without
alterations. Motor mounts cannot be removed or altered. Castings and
fittings may not be changed. No machine work on the outside of the
engine or on the front or rear of the camshaft.
2. No dry sump systems. Wet system
must be operative.
3. Small block V-8 only. GM or Ford
CID must not exceed 360 CID, Dodge must not exceed 368 CID.
Engine must:
a) flat top piston only,
b) flat tappet or hydraulic camshaft
only,
c) cast iron head only,
d) HEI ignition or point ignition,
No MSD ignition, No magnetos.
4. Cooling systems may be modified.
Radiators and oil coolers must not protrude above the interior.
